Hey all!!

Have not had time for pics, but I went to wal-mart tonight because I had to pick up some organic baby food for my snello and gelatin, and of course, because I am a masochist:headshake2:, I went back to check out the fish. They had all these female bettas on the back of a shelf, gross water, underfed, laying on their sides:eek3:, very lethargic and I snapped:swear:. I yelled at the manager for like 20 minutes and ended up helping her clean out all the tanks and betta cups, feed the fish and put the right fish in the right places. They had Blood Parrots in COLD water :headshake2:, they had oscars with mollys and freshwater crabs with no way to get out of the water :mad2:!! I was so upset, so I bought all the female bettas that they had (7) and since I moved my cories to my 100 gallon, they are now in the 55 gallon, together, happy as clams, and coloring up. 3 of them have that stripe from the eyes to the tail, which you couldn't see in the store because they were so pale. One is now red finned when all you could see was grey in the store and one is turquoise and one is blue, but they both looked black and grey in the store. One is all white/pink with random black spots. I will get pictures as soon as they color up all the way, but I wanted to share the story. There has been a little flaring at each other, but with all the plants and hiding space, they get along fine. What is really funny is that one of my male guppies thinks flaring at the biggest female is a good idea :evil_lol:, and when she chases him, he hides and then slowly goes right back to her to start flaring again. Ya, he is really bright. There has been no nipping of the snails or the other fish, they are coloring up, they ate (a lot) and are resting in the plants. So, without really planning it, I now have a betta sorority with 7 of the most beautiful girls I have ever seen! (if I do say so myself). Updates and pics to come!! Thanks for reading!

Awesome Maribeth! Can't wait for the pix.

I want a sorority of them, I wonder what would happen if you were to add a male? LOL, no don't do that!

Great job though, hopefully they've learnt how to look after the fish a bit better with your help. I hate how the chain shops just don't care how they're kept.. The workers seem clueless aswell.

So are you gonna keep all them? Like forever? Or just rescue them and pass them on later?

Also I reckon it's time for an update on the 100g! Haven't seen it yet!

Matt.

Congrats on the new fishies. I would like to see pics. I have just recently become more interested in Bettas in general, and I've not yet seen a sorority tank. :)

You found live fish at walmart???

Just kidding, nice save. I've been tempted to do the same but every time I go to pick one up I think about the inventory manager ordering 2 to take its place.

Would like to see vids, I've been interested in a sorority tank.

Kudos for you!!! Female bettas are some of the most under rated fish IMO. They are beautiful and wonderful fish!!! Good luck with your girls and hope you get lots of enjoyment watching them. One word of advice...be sure the tank has good cover, these little ladies are jumpers!!! ;)

That's a horrible and wonderful story. Good for you for telling the manager what's what. And for saving those poor fishies! Can't wait for pics!

I would like to see pictures as well! I always feel bad for the females since they aren't as flashy as the males....one day I will have a sorority too. :)

I am going to keep them! They are fantastic!! So pretty! And pics will come soon!! Thanks Matt!

Oh wow, having a betta sorority sounds exciting. Do you have anything else in the tank with them besides the male guppy? Would like to hear how this works out, might encourage my husband to try that with his 55.

Pics!!

Ok, the pics aren't that great but hey, they show the coloration and the beauty of my girls! Enjoy!! 7 in total, 6 of them look fairly similar, i.e. dark bodies, but there is one white girl, who I have named sparkles because she plays in the airstone bubbles!! The others do not have names...YET!! As always, feedback and advice, or comments are always welcome!
