I bought a crayfish today and while I was watching it I noticed that the sides of the head have what looks like light colored growths all over the areas that would be the "cheeks" if the animal had them. Little white structures, about .5mm wide and 2mm long. They're roughly symmetrical, and I have it in quarantine right now.

Is this part of the crayfish, or is this some sort of parasite/disease?

i think that has what is devloped on mine. I cant find any info on it I have already posted this question. You hace much better detail in your :)

the growths on mine seem to look kinda like a zit. BUT i know that is not teh case. mine is on the front of him on his lower jaw. Anyone with crazy fish have this problem.... perhaps it is a new tank thing. I just got my crazy two days ago, and i noticed it yersteday. If you just got your fish, maybe it is something that happens from stress and will go away.

Overall, i think this si a great place to solve this problem, SO many people here have differant fish, and many people are very knowledgeable (spelling :( ) Lets figqure this out as a team

Are they stony? Equally distributed?

Crayfish can carry some parasites--unlikely that it would infect your fish, and the cray will lose them when it next molts.

If this is being added to a fish tank, watch out--crays will shred fins, and eat any fish they can catch, in addition to re-arranging the tank. There are cases of it working out for a few months, but most decide to go with one or the other occupant in the long run.
