one of my baloon mollies got sucked by the filter, i tried to save her, but her mouth and one eye is completely destroyed. how can i put an end to her suffering??

Clove Oil is suppose to be a great way to gently put them to sleep and then you can move it to the freezer. Clove Oil can supposedly be found at the drugstore aroundthe toothpaste items since it is used to help with sore teeth.

When I euthanize I cut the head off with a very sharp knife. It is quick, cheap, and the fish never knows what hits them.

Not totally related to the original post but after reading through a lot of the links on Euthanization, it reminded me of a time when I was fishing. I was fishing on the intercoastal waterway in Orange Beach, Al. about 10 years ago and felt a heavy tug on my line and thought I had made a great catch. To my sursprise, it was a black eel that was about 2 1/2 feet long. It scared the total crap out of me cause when I pulled it out of the water, it was wriggling around so much that it seemed like it was coming at me.

I was kinda freaked out at the time and pissed cause it seemed like the thing was trying to get me(understandably so!) and I was trying to get this thing off my line. I only had needle nose pliers but I wasn't about to try to touch that thing to pry the hook out of it's mouth and didn't have any scissors to cut the line. I proceeded to swing the rod over my head and slam the eel down on the dock. I thought one good slam would do the trick...........it took six or seven hard slams to kill that sucker. Don't get me wrong, I hate the idea of killing anything but this thing put me in a different frame of mind.

Anyway, these threads have given me some good info on how to, humanely, euthanize a fish If I ever have to.

i didnt have time to go to the drugstore and get clove oil, so i remember once a friend of mine from another forum told me to put the fish in a bag with some water and put it in the freezer.

there was no way she would survive, believe me, if there were i would be the first one to let her live. her mouth was gone and so was one of the eyes. she was bleeding and agonizing. it was awful!! the other balloon mollies got so scared that all of them hid inside this tube that i have as an ornament on the bottom of the tank! i decided to do some water change because i believe the water might have been tasting blood. soon after i changed the water, they were back swimming around, but i can tell they are still stressed. :(

kasakato, what happened was that when i got home i looked for one of the fry (that had been sucked by the filter before) and he was (again) trapped, but this time he was inbetween the two tubes (it's an aquaclear 30), so instead of turning off the filter, the stupid here, took out the tube and let this big opening still attached to the filter (sorry, english is not my first language, im doing my best to try to explain what happened). the balloon was sucked in and i only noticed when the motor started doing this weird sound. :( :(

i put a small piece of pantyhose in the filter intake (the tube) so that the fry dont get trapped again. is it ok?

thanks for trying to help me! everything helped too fast... :( :( :(

yea a bag of water and freezing it is the best way

or slamming it really hard against a dresser or somthing..
but thats almost barbaric but it works
