Did it look something like this?

The first is a Moss ball, while the second is java moss.

Moss balls are excellent for sucking out nutrients out of your tank, but don't expect much growth, as they grow very, very, very slowly. Even with lots of light. Ive had both for months. The java has taken off at 3.7 watts per gallon of lighting and 30 ppm of C02, while the Moss ball hasen't grown a cm.

Also, the java moss has roots/rhizomes that can be used to attach it to wood, gravel, rock, etc. The moss ball, can not be attaced, and grows in a ball form. It can be opened and flatened out, but it won't attach to anything as it does not have roots.

It is the first one....So do u sugest to stay away from the Moss Ball?

Not at all. They look cool, and are excellent to fight against green algae in planted tanks. You really can't go wrong with them. Juts make sure you turn them from time to time, to keep them from loosing it's shape.

Also, what are they priced at. They are often expensive. I got some labled as java moss as well, for 5 bucks a ball. At another store they were labled correctly and were going for 25 bucks a ball.

The are labled as Java Moss and i think they arae something like $7 a ball...and they always seem to have them!

you said that moss balls are good for sucking nutrients out of my tank, what kind of nutrients are u talking about?
Will it hurt the tank for the nutrients to be taken out?

No it won't hurt at all. No im assuming your tank has live plants in it already?

By nutrients i mean, Nitrates, Phosphates, and Potasium. Now all plants suck nutrients out of the water, but some more then others. This one sucks out more. This is good because, it basically "starves" the algae from getting the nutrients, and thus limits how much green algae or other algaes you get or have. They call this out competing the algae. Like i said, they can only do good. They also don't need much light, so they won't die on you.

By they way, how much light do you have, and how many live plants do you have. Also what size is your tank?

i believe their called morimo balls you could try googling for info.ata pet shop en ville they labeled morimo balls as java moss so im not asking any plant advide from those guys.here they sell for 7$ a 2'' ball. by the way morimo balls arent even plants. its actually a colony of green algea that formed into a sphere rolling around in the current
