Hey there,
can somebody please help me out with a question? Our red devil ("Pookie") has suddenly begun some bizarro behavior- we went away for the weekend and we came back to find the front cover of the tank knocked off. We thought maybe he was just hungry so we put the cover back on and fed him. But everytime we turn around he would do it again! THEN I came home and found him wedged between a tank ornament and the wall, refusing to come out. I put in the net to see if he was alive or what- he came out, swam around but then wedged himself back in. He sat there that way for about 24 hours. THEN just as suddenly he came out, started to eat and has been acting his normal Pookie self. Any comments or opinions? Thanks for your help.

Other than naming a red devil pookie? Never seen that myself. I know oscars can get sulky like that. If water checks out, and fish is eating I would not worry. Welcome to AC!

Pookie

I have a 55 gallon tank, water is fine, no tankmates (Pookie ain't a friendly guy...) but I love him :o)
I swear he was sulking!!!!!

I also have a red devil who appears to sulk after being left for a few nights by himself. Rather than hiding though, he'll puff his gills at me and splash water with his tail when I come up to the tank rather than being his normal (fairly amiable) self. I spent a few nights away at the beginning of this week and still haven't been forgiven!

Red Devils can turn psychotic at the drop of a hat,not to mention their close relative the Midas

red devil pair

I have a mating pair of red devils. When the female laid her eggs she would defend her rock, but other than that left her mate alone. When I come to feed them she (Jasmine) ignores me, but he (Aladdin) gets excited and jumps up to reach the food i'm offering. Does she need something else besides flakes, shrimp pellets, cichlid pellets, or Krill? Please let me know as I am new at the breeding thing. I really want to be successful as I have had cichlids for years but never was brave enough to take this on.
I have a 37 gallon tank for the pair, a 90 gallon tank with an oscar, texas cichlid, jack dempsey, and two very large pecosimus; a 20 gallon tank with kissing gouramis, tinfoil barb, brown catfish (not sure what type but he's getting big fast), and a striped shark; and 3 5gallon tanks with frogs and bettas.
Any advice?????

does she hate me?

So, I am concerned....Ever since I arranged my red devil's tank so that she could fit into the flower pot. She won't come out of it. She swims in, and there she lays, 90% of the time. Weird, any ideas?
