What are these little "darting" white specks in my water?

I have been treating a male betta in a 6 gallon eclipse for what looked like a fungal infection (he has lost almost all of his scales). He is, however, still swimming around and other than losing his scales, is doing pretty good.

I have since stopped all treatments, since I felt I was doing him more harm than good by over-medicating him. I have been very diligent about doing water changes to his tank every couple of days.

I have been noticing tiny, tiny white specks of something swimming "darting" around in his water. They almost look like tiny grains of sand with what looks like tails. Any clues as to what they are? Do you think that these are contributing to his problem? I don't see them in any of my other tanks.

Thanks,

Michele

some form of parasite I am sure, move the betta carefully to a clean cured water (let it stand overnight and then empty the water and was with bleach and rinse rinse rinse rinse refill the tank and let the water stand for a day and then move the betta back

just a thought

I know in new tank set-ups, the tanks tend to get planaria. Could this be the case since I am changing the water so frequently?? :idea2:

My tanks have been going for a few years, and I seem to remember getting planaria on the inside glass of my tanks when I first started cycling them, but I don't remember what they looked like.

Nope, no live plants. Just one "naked" betta and a (silk) plant.

Set up is:

6 gallon eclipse system
pH 7.6
No ammonia, nitrites
Haven't tested nitrates in awhile.
Water changes lately about every 3-4 days (about 50% each time)

Copepods or something similar (daphnia, cyclops, etc.) from the description. They are not parasistes.

Parasites are found on a host, and cannot survive without a host. I do not understabd why so many hobbyists think that anything alive in the water which is not a fish or plant is a parasite. A new myth.
