Its normaly black in colour, the mofo just ate one of my peppermint cats i dont know how he fit him in his mouth but he did. I haven't seen colour in this fish for over 6 months. I guess live feed will bring that out in a fish. . .

. . also while im at it i have 2 Severums I purchaced as juvies. The LFS labeled them as "Green Severums", they are awsome fish like most of my fish they can be hand fed and even leap for food they also dont mind the ocasional contact with a hand, curious fish. Recently added to a new tank they have paired up and all week they have been locking jaws. The Male has a distinct brown colour with red fins where as the female remains a dull grey. Are they 2 different breeds or is this just a display the male puts on?

heres some shnaps -

yea looks like a jack dempsey to me also

100% sure its a jack dempsy. i have one in a tank with 3 piranhas, a green terror a convict. hes extremely aggresive... often picking fights with 3 piranhas at once. very territorial, anyone who invades his space is up for chasing.

definantly a dempsey

yep its a demsey and they grow into color

males get it more on the body and females get more on the gill plates and yeah they will eat anything they can

its become kinda like a circus show in my house to throw in snails for the JD to hunt
