How long approx. before a piece of java moss rubber banded down to a sheet of slate will take hold and i can remove the rubber band? it looks so goofy in my tank

You could try using black thread or fishing line, not as unsightly

Yea - Black or dark green sewing thread works wonders - I have never bothered to remove it because you can't see it and eventually it will rot away itself
I used a red rubber band, within a week I forgot it was even there. I don't think you could find it now to save a fish.
Also, there are clear elastic bands. You can find them with the barrettes, etc. at Wal-Mart, Zellers.... I used to use dark thread or fishing line, but I have found this a lot easier. (Too lazy to even tie knots!)
