I know pictures help but the lights are out now. I bought some plants actually the first time trying live plants. I purchased some anacharis and a mixed bundle that came with like three different plants. I was wondering if anyone knew what the mixed plants were from petco. One looks like a fern plant the others have leaves out lined in white with a stalk and the others have leaves without a white outline. If I can get an Idea thet would work and Ill post pics tomorrow.
 
The ones you described with the white stripes sound like terrestrial non-aquatic plants. I've seen Petco trying to sell those for aquatic use, where they are really meant for terrarium use. If you can post pics tomorrow, we should be able to ID them for sure.
 
yeah I usually dont shop at petco but they have a good selection of plants they are actually edged in white they were actually in a large aquarium with the anacharis. Ill post pics tomorrow I am just overzeles thanks.

Yeah I do agree that these plants are meant for terrariums and will not live in the aquarium. Petco sells these all the time and if you go over to the reptiles you will see the same plants there too.
Every once in a blue moon I see a great deal on a Petco plant, usually the "loose" plants for 1.99 can be a good deal, if they are actually aqaurium plants. Make sure you know what you are getting though, I now have a good selection of plants on my balcony that came from Petco. :cool:
 
The hydroponic plants in the little tubes are often terrestrial. One Petco I drive by has a plant tank that has a higher proportion of aquatic plants. The local Petsmart seems to do a bit better with plants.

One store around here was selling palm plants for aquaria recently. Those little 'bella palms that show up everywhere for Easter. That's about as bad as selling juniper branches as "princess pine" aquarium plants!

My Girl Friend and I were at Petco esterday and she was telling me how she had grown some of their aquatic plants on land. When I looked I told her thats because they are not aquatic plants! It was the same plant with teh white stripes.

It seems like so many plant newbies are purchasing these as aquarium plants that I think it should be Illegal to sell them as such. They had some other non-aquatic looking plants in there as well.
 
There are many aquatic plants that can be grown out of water so it is possible. I know what plant you are talking about and I believe that it is not a true aquatic plants. However, plants like anubias, Limnophila aquatica(which I have growing on my window right now), aquatic clover, etc. can be grown above water. I think that many plants that fish stores get are in their above ground stage because it is easier for the producer to grow and ship them that way. That is why sometimes, when you get a new plant, the leaves fall off or seem to die away before the plant starts growing again.
