I have a suspected case of hexamita amongst my discus, who are quarantined in a seperate tank. I lost one last night that hadn't eaten for a week and had white stringy poo, the rest are still eating but are very reserved and not themselves, and only move one fin most of the time, the other is clamped. I've currently been treating with interpet no 9 on the advice of a discus breeder, but i suspect it's not bacterial in that sense.

All four were recent additions, but came from two different places, but all four have the same problem. Can hexamita develop within the space of a week?

Anyway, being in the uk i can't get any antibiotics without prescription, and no vets in the area will prescribe for fish as they're outside the vets code of practice. The only specialist is 50 miles away and will not travel, and i can't transport the fish. I've tried everything on that front, it's a no go.

Has anyone got experience with Aquarium Products Clout? It claims to treat Hexamita amongst many other things. Or can anyone suggest something that i might be able to get in the uk that's not a prescription drug. UK law is such a farce.

Many thanks.

what size tank and what temp?
how many discus? are they all affected?

when you say hexamita are you thinking the discus have been affected but flagellated protazoans?

or do you suspect internal bacterial infection?

could also be other internal parasites ie capillaria or camillanus.

are all meds only available via prescription?

can you get metronidazole , praziquantel, flubenzadole? also if you can find fenbenzadole. these are all used to treat internal infestations of parasites.

I was also going to recommend metronidazole. I can get that at my LFS here.
