Well I did a 60% water change and can tell a night a day difference .I also aggressively vacuumed the gravel and cleaned out a ton of plant matter. Now my next question. What are your thoughts on the weekly balance chemicals that contain live bacteria. Use it or no?

My opinion would be no.... a well established tank with a balance of lighting/plants, not over feeding and a solid WC/maintenance schedule is what you need.

Gotcha. I'm not too keen on adding a bunch of chemicals to the water, would rather do it without if I could

Cut the lights down to only 8 hours per day, and maybe try a micron filter.

tried to edit my post about algone but I don't see an edit option - I made the suggestion based on someone else's tank - I actually used the product this week and hate it :( got all slimy, got my filter slimy and the water has not cleared up.

A bit o/t, lochness, but there is a time limit on when you can edit posts in order to maintain thread continuity.
