About two weeks back during a fishing trip I managed to bring home a few baby sunfish. Though most died one has remained and is doing great.
Probably the hardest part with him is getting him to eat. Ive tried flake/pellet/crisp and no luck. Then gave frozen food a try, first was frozen blood worms which he somewhat ignored and was actually scared of lol, and then tried BBS. That he examined for a few minutes and after a first taste he went after all i threw in the tank. But recently Ive tried live blood worms and he just goes violent on them lol rips them up like theres no tomorrow.
Well here are the shots, first two are of him when i just got him.

Cool. :) I've got a little Bluespot in my tank. Surprisingly, it hasn't grown much, if at all, in the year that I've had it.

It's in my 10G with the Golden Topminnows. I feed it fresh and marine flakes, cylop-eeze, freeze-dried tubifex, brine shrimp, and crumbled plankton. I added a culture of freshwater rotifers awhile back and it tore into them pretty eagerly.

I'll try to get a good pic of it. He/she usually hides in the driftwood whenever I get close enough to the tank to get a decent shot. I think it may be a female Bluespot, as it doesn't have the nice dark coloration and bright blue spots commonly seen in the males. It wouldn't surprise me if were actually another species of pygmy sunfish, TBH...but it does look very much like a Bluespot to me.

Very nice, BK! Don't worry, he'll figure out prepared foods sooner or later; I give my juvies crumbled Tetra jumbo cichlid pellets, in addition to frozen foods. He's vulnerable now, but if you can get him through the next week or two, he'll be tough as nails.

Where did you get your little sunfish?

Alright...this is the best I could do. It hid in the plants at the back of the tank. The little bugger is less than 1"...for over a year now..lol.

if i might ask how many did you try to bring home how many died in transit

hope you this one does well for you

Slappy- Does your fish have a lateral line at all? If not, it may well be an Elassoma rather than an Enneacanthus, which would mean its small size is normal.

He seems to go after NLS but most of the time spits it back out. The ones that he did go after were ones that already sank and were mushy, guess he gets the flavor out of them that way lol
He is alone in my 10g, swims back and forth really enjoying the space (kinda stupid of me to say that since before he had a whole lake to enjoy :wall: ) I was thinking of getting some ghost shrimp or guppy fry in there with him, so he can chase them around.
Any suggestions on how often i should feed him the live blood worms? Dont want to over feed the lil guy.

Got him at catskill mountains in NY.

Tried to bring home about 4-5.
Same thing happened a while back when my brother and I tried to bring back larger size juvies. Out of those 4-5 only one made it and is doing good in my brothers tank.
Im sure if i had some sort of portable air pump more wouldve made it. Though they died not on the way back home (bout 1.5-2hr drive) but died the following morning
