My supervisor sent me to Iceland with his field tech (a friend of mine from my master's) to collect some more stickleback. Basically, he sent me because he knows I'll get the job done and I'm free labor. But hey! I got an all expenses paid trip to Iceland for 10 days! Yes, I have been working during most of it, we've been here six days and this is the first chance I have had to sit down, have a beer and browse the net. But overall its been pretty amazing to say the least. We've managed to see the Northern Lights twice, unfortunately the only camera I have is my phone, so no pics. But it was one of the most amazing sites I've seen in my life. Also, while driving down a pretty abandoned road I spotted a pony foal with its back legs stuck in a fence, the mare was pacing around it and I told my friend we HAD to stop. Luckily, he takes things I say seriously, and even though it was late and we wanted to get back with the fish we had just collected, he agreed and said "we can't leave them like that, we have to stop." So, I had to make a pony who acted like it had never seen people trust me enough that I could untwist a barbed wire and field fencing fence from BOTH of her back legs. That was an adventure in itself. Mom and baby were fine though, which was lucky because we couldn't see a house for miles and even if we could, it would be rare they would speak English out in the country like that. There is a picture of mom and baby attached here (the second picture). It was my proud moment of the trip. I've never felt so relieved to see a pony run away from me lol. Also, there are ponies everywhere!
