I have two females as well. I wish they were male because the males color up very nicely. :)

The fish you posted for ID does not have the same face as a red empress.... unless the pic is distorting what it really looks like, then your fish is likely not a red empress. Its similar though, and a lot of females from the genus Protomelas look similar. Its one of the most common fish from that genus so i wouldnt be suprised. As i said before, could be a hybrid.

And does this fish have yellow in the fins or is that just the background showing through?

here are a few more pictures that I took. As far as the yellow on the fins, that is just the color showing through. There is no color whatsoever on the fish. They are silver and black that is it.

I actually have the same cichlid in which I thought to be dimidio (eye biter)...come to realize after my purchase of a "real dimidio" who was different in shape ...I believe we have hybrid Red empress/dimidio
