I'm pretty sure using cigarettes in a room with a tank is bad for the fish, but is all smoke bad for tanks?

In my opinion , any type of smoke is unhealthy for anyone. That said, I think if your tank has a good cover on it, there should be no problem. If your tank is uncovered, I don't know if smoke will cause harm, but I am sure it won't do your fish any good.

I smoked for many years in my house and burnt candles. I didn't notice any detrimental effects on the fish, plants, or inverts in my tanks. With that being said, I quit smoking many years ago in my house and a couple years ago I completely quit. If in doubt, don't do it :).

If you are running an airpump, it may increase the chances of any toxic particles from the air entering the tank. Otherwise, unless your house is a total Cheech and Chong smoke bomb, it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Interesting info. I was also curious to know if cigarette smoke affects aquariums. Thanks. ;)
