Also, I've seen the return line, when the end of it is below the overflow weir, syphon the water backwards down to the sump. Think this might be happening? If so, you can drill a small hole in the return hose as an anti-syphon so that it loses syphon down to the sump when the pump isn't running. The anti-syphon hole should be above the weir overflow rim.
