By the way, I think I need a teeny tiny bit more than 1 pound per gallon if 45+ pounds of gravel in my 30g is only about 2" deep (poor plants...). I'm aiming for 3-4 inches of sand in the 75g. How many pounds would that be?

150-200lbs. i used 150 in my 72 gallon bowfront, its bout 2.5 inches.

but it depends on the foot print of the tank not the capacity.

usually if you are buying play sand, (at least in lowe's or home depot) there is a weight/mass chart either on the bags or on the shelves with the price tags that tells you how much you need to get a depth of x inches based on square footage. i used about 30-35 pounds of it in my 55g and it's 1-2 inches deep.
