I know I'm a discus but what kind am I?

Maybe this?
At 3" your discus is still a baby and does not have it's full adult coloration yet. You got him 2 months ago at 1.5" so he was maybe 2 months old then, making him about 4 months old now. His color will change a lot yet.

Debbi:)

See thats why I think it was bred from a wild brown at some point maybe with a snake skin because I can't find any other discus that looks like him and I know he is still young but I WANT TO KNOW!!!
thanks for the help. keep em coming.

Here's an excellent example of how a discus will change from 3"size to adult size. There are Blue Knights.

:iagree: w/ Debbi

the discus is still a bit young to try and determine the final coloration..many of them change considerably from juvenile to adult.

I'd give it another 2-3 months.

Are those your fish? I just ask because there are a lot of names out there that are used for different looking discus especially since they could be mixed parents and so on. I have a 2" discus that looks like that baby blue night but mine is a blue turquoise. I can't believe that the small fish is the same as the adult fish in those pictures.
Any way I will post some new pictures in a month or two.

Hi FishyMatty,
They are not my fish but someone I know. You have a young red turq and that fish too will change immensely when it is full grown. Red turqs were the first discus I owned. They were 2.5 to 3", and when the breeder showed me what they would look like full grown.........I just said WHAT? YOU'RE TELLING ME THAT BABY FISH WILL LOOK LIKE THAT FULL GROWN?? It was really very hard to believe that the young turqs were going to change that much. So I know first hand how amazingly they change. Seems like they start to show their adult colors on their fins and head first, then slowly the body colors change and fill in. I have a young blue snakeskin and a red spotted green that I can't wait to see get to their adult color-up. It'll be interesting to see a picture of this fish of yours posted as "then...and now".

To me, it looks like snakeskin genetics with the barring. But it has very faint red spots on its side. So possibly a leopard of sorts. It definetly isnt hormoned, so it still has A LOt of coloring up to do as it matures. Give it 6-8+ months and you will see the colors slowly come out.
