Sand Substrate for my 75 gal???

Once the sand settles, you shouldn't have problems with the filter sucking it up, unless you have your filter intake abnormally close to the substrate. I have Eco Complete cichlid sand, which is a mix of a white aragonite sand and tahitian moon and I have had no problems with it getting in my filters. A 75g is a tall tank, so just keep the filter intake atleast 6 inches away from the sand.

Buying the Tahitian moon sand is going to be expensive. If you can find the pool filter sand, I'd recommend it. If you want something dark, try to find the 3m Colorquartz sand.

i found black substrate sand at petco for an ok price. it was like 20 lbs for $15 or something. but ya, i don't like buying stuff online unless it saves me enough money that it is worth the trouble. (like $7+) and i do want black sand because i will probably get a black background and my fish are yellow, white, and blue so i think they will look good with the sand and background. what do you think?

Personally, I use white substrate in all my tanks. Crushed coral. It raises pH to about 8 (African cichlids thrive in this pH), and it looks good.

I use pool filter sand in mine, big enough to not get sucked up and small enough to look like sand*, and it is wayyy cleaner than play sand IMO. 50pound bag for 9.99 at leslie's pool supply.

do they sell pool sand in black?

if you have fish that like to dig such as my convicts, there will be periodically sand suspended in the water (if you use fine sand like i do) do the sponge thing. i don't since it reduces the flow of my filter by a ton. when they kick it up my filter is louder, but when it goes down, my filter is quiet again.

ok. the only thing is that white, in my tank with my decor and everything, would clash with all the colors. i might consider it, but i really have my heart set on a dark color (preferably black) because it will be able to hide the fish waste and it looks cool from my perspective.
