Need help with a centre piece fish?

i have a dwarf gourami in my tank with tetras, he's fine. very friendly, comes to the front when i walk past, can hand feed him, and pretty too. there's lots of different colours, one of my fav fish :)

How about Blue Bolivian Rams.. I have two of them and are peaceful with my tetras...

I agree with either the rams, or the Moonlight or Pearl Gourami.... You could go with that, and five panda cories, (and yes, I would finish off both schools... the fancy tetras with another 2-3 and the black skirts with another 2-3)...

Life all over the tank!

The moonlight gouramie is similar to the pearl gourami, only will get about 5-6 inches... They end up being a very nice looking fish.

I wouldn't think the cichlids would go over in my tank? I would love to have cichlids in there.

Brian you are suggesting 7-9 extra fish in my tank, wouldn't that make it overstocked?
Brian you are not over on advrider by any chance are you?

The fish you have in the tank are already from a number of different boitopes. I nature they would likely never encounter one another. They will survive together, but you will not be able to match the ideal water conditions of all of your fish while the remain in the same tank. This considered, you could concentrate your tank on water conditions appropriate for cichlids. With the fish you already have, angels, rams, or other small non-aggressive cichlids should not be an issue.

deadxero, I never really realized that was the case. I wish there were a list of fish that match so you can plan that way. basically the way my tank got stocked was going to my lfs and telling what i have finding soemthing to match up. As far as I knew they did fit together. The only problem I thought I had was I was adding a small amount of salt to the water and was worried how the snails would react with that.

Is there a place a can find a list of fish for a partiular biotopes?

Don't worry about matching fish that require the same water parameters unless you want to choose fish that match your tapwaters paramaters. Most people run their tanks with whatever their tapwater comes out anyway, and most fish can acclimate to that. Some more sensitive species don't acclimate well to water outside of their natural range, and many won't breed unless they're in the correct water, but otherwise should be fine.

All the fish in your tank besides the mollies have similar natural water parameters anyway. Guppies can live in almost anything, they're not an issue.
Danios can handle a wide range as well.

Your tetras naturally come from soft, acidic water, but unless you're planning on trying to change your water to suit them (which I don't recommend without plenty of research) this is irrelevent. Most people do much more harm trying to change their water to a different pH or hardness than just leaving it alone. Fish would much rather have stability than large pH swings while someone is trying to change the water to suit them.

Angelfish MIGHT prey on your neons once they reach full size, especially if your neons are pretty small. Put angelfish with caution, though they will likely be ok. My angelfish will chase down and kill any fish small enough, but neons are pretty fast.

You shouldn't have any problems with dwarf cichlids like apistogrammas should you choose to get some. There are a lot of very colorful species.
