She's been premenstrual for several days. Yesterday, she laid lots of eggs. Now she'd defending and occasionally looks as if she's trying to fertilize them herself.

Any suggestions for getting her to quit laying?

Not likely to get her to quit laying eggs. Take it as a compliment to your husbandry efforts. Fish need excellent conditions (by their definition) to produce eggs. Either get her a male, trade her to someone who has a male, or get accustomed to seeing unfertilized eggs every two weeks or so. They will usually only around for a day and will then be eaten.

My female fire mouth does this once a month, I got her 2 males, she does not like them. she lays eggs every month after a 50% water change. ( I do 30% every week) and 50 percent each month )

very nice looking female.
you keep the tnk in great conditions which may contribute to her laying eggs.

sometimes they may stop on their own. other times she will continue to lay eggs .

ever thought of breeding her?

...ever thought of breeding her?

Thanks - and not really, as I did not want her to get aggressive (oh well). She's actually a rescue - I brought her home in a 6g Eclipse along w/ some Anubias & Bolbitis, so I never planned to "do" anything w/ her. If I lose a couple of more smaller Tetras, I may reconsider as the rest of the family likes her a lot. I think they might enjoy her having a boyfriend. I guess the trick would be finding her a boy... There's a local auction coming up next month. I may look there as I might be trying to sell some plants there anyway.

she would pair up so nice with my Wild Scalare(Peru) ;)

I have a pair of angels that lay eggs every couple of weeks. They are never fertilized. Don't know if the male is infertile or if I have two females. Doesn't seem to disrupt much...So I just let it happen
