I have a 35l tank.
Only want to put a few fish in...
I live in the UK....and am quite new to all this....it's incrediably exciting though!
I would love either some invertebrates or some kind of algae eaters.....
does anyone have any suggestions as to fish set up?
still currently cycling my tank so I have awhile to ponder about it all.
Main problem is....where do I get invertebrates ( if I chose them, they'll go in coldwater etc) in the uk? I live near manchester.
(My tank temp is 23+ degrees)
Many thanks for any nice comments

you can get some freshwater mussels or clams, but good luck ever seeing them after introduction.

If it's only going to be around 23, most inverts will do fine. Most of my invert tanks are about 24 degrees.

you might look into "Japanese pond/trapdoor snails," Vivparus malleatus. they're similar to mystery snails, do well in colder water (hence "pond") and are similarly active and interesting. they do a marginally better job of trimming algae, have dual sexes, and are livebearers, so you don't have to worry about eggs everywhere. they get quite large, but grow very slowly. you can often find solid olive-color ones and striped ones. aquabid sometimes has vivs in the snail section. :) i'm not sure about UK import regulations or where to find vivs in the UK, but i believe they are available there as well.

this thread has good photos:

and photos of adults:

note, the last photo in that second thread is NOT a viv. it is a land snail.

hi blondified,
am not to far from you and i rarly see inverts avalible at any pet/fish shop except from the odd apple snail.

i my self keep and breed apple snails, i also have a good few shrimp and a breeding pair of crayfish.

i originaly purchased mine from ebay you could try there or wait a month or so and buy some from me!!!!!!!

happy hunting

btw temp will be fine at rooom temp, mine on some tanks are a steady 72-74 with no need for a heater.

most common inverts will do fine at that temp.... ghost shrimp, amano shrimp, apple snails.... the only common inverts I can tthink of that really need warm water are bamboo/wood shrimp.
