Airstones!

really a HOB with the water level dropped or you mean witht he water line up even?

mgamer2000?

hey buddy?

Im still confused with what you meant.

A hob or a canister will do even more damage to co2 loss than a airstone on?

What mgamer is saying, I believe, is:

Airstones(pumping air, not co2) are a bad idea for co2. These create surface agitation, which is bad for co2.

HOB's create surface agitation which is bad for co2.

Cannister filters, if angled the wrong way(i.e, towards the surface of the water), can create surface agitation, which is bad for co2

One step further, while effective, there are better ways to diffuse co2 than through an airstone. You're aware of this. However, sometimes you just don't have a choice due to space issues, so in your 5 and 10, you just might not have the space for another diffusion method.

I got that. and thanks for space issue.

but on the original ?

I know airatone with air coming out and co2 is bad.

I thought he saying a hob with the water level up above or at is still worse than a airstone pumping air while running co2?

So, I don't exactly know how this is a relevant question. Reason is, if you are doing co2, airstone(the one pumping air, not co2). Ditch it, no wiggle room.

Next, obviously, you can't ditch your filter, so if HOB is what you have, HOB is what you have.

Anyway, to answer your question. I agree, an HOB disturbed the surface of the water more than an airstone does, therefore, an HOB is worse for co2 than the airstone.

But again, you can ditch the airstone, you can't ditch the fitler.

I just ordered my sponge filter for my tank, I will be putting the air stone in that now instead of the back of the tank. I am getting the sponge ready for my ten gallon tank to get it ready for fish next month. I still have an air stone in the other tank, but I will be taking that out to and adding a sponge filter to this tank to. ( in case I need a fast tank for any sick fish or babies,

thats great granny

ugh thats what I thought he said " a airstone (air) isnt as bad as a HOB filled to the lip- in terms on co2 gass off."

so I have to get a canister now! lol j/k Ill put the airstone with co2 output in the corner and fill the HOB up as best I can to avoid top water nasties. thanks jeffrey.
