Well, this is kinda a rant!! WHY oh WHY do they not send a disc with computers anymore!! They all have the windows pre-installed...which is convenient and all, but they could at least include a copy for you!

So, I have been having problems with my windows start up and having a hard time being online alot lately the screen freezes up and then it goes to a blue screen with a error message about windows start up shutting down, I have to go through all kinds of crap to get it to start back up. Some times when it comes on it goes straight to "window repair", sometimes when I click it, it works other times it doesn't go to that screen at all, just the blue screen where it has the "Press Esc to..." "Press F10 for...." "Press F11 for..., sometimes when I go in one of those it works, other times it doesn't, each time is different, going into F8 and going to "repair my computer" works other times it doesn't. Sometimes I can make it to the screen with "System restore", "window repair", "System recovery"...other times I can't get to that screen either..if I can make it there usually system restore will work. Sometimes turning the computer off and waiting a while works, other times it doesn't. I have had this computer for almost a year now so it isn't very old really.

Anyway, I was making a back up....then I ran out of discs!!!!!!!!! I had used 9 already, now I find out you can only make one back up copy of the discs on your computer AND you are suppose to close all programs and be off line. Well, I have DSL so I am always connected unless I turn off my router AND I did not turn off all my programs...so does anyone know if I can re-due this??? OH, but I CAN PURCHASE back up copies....EEEERRRRRRR, didn't I PURCHASE the Vista when I PURCHASED THE DARN COMPUTER!!!!!

To be honest, it sounds like your suffering from a potential hardware fault in my opinion..Despite all the ramblings people make about vista and its slowness, lack of features etc etc, its actually a very robust operating system. As its coming up to a year old, i would suggest you speak to the manufactuer of the computer and get them to run hardware diags on it and get it checked before your warranty runs out..best to be on the safe side. If they say its all fine, and its a software fault, then thats easily dealt with...

Quite a lot of systems dont come with recovery disks anymore as part of their OEM System Builders Licence from Microsoft, they do not have to provide you with a hard media copy of the operating system, just provide the licence to use it..Most times you can specifiy if you want a media disk at time of order and they will supply you with one, at your cost of course. Also, most manufactuers of branded computers should also come with the facility to create your own DVD image for restoration as the Windows Vista / XP image file is already on your computer, but hidden in a part of your hard drive which, under normal circumstances is not seen by the end user (yourself)..

What brand of computer is it?

You should be able to contact the manufacturer of the computer for recovery disks. There may be a fee involved though.

As was mentioned this is what keeps the cost of computers low. Considering a full copy of Windows costs at least $200 and someone like Dell sells their computers starting at $500 with a monitor, well you get what you pay for. This is also why customer support has gone downhill over the years. People don't want to pay for it in the cost of the computer so you get cheap support.

You can easily buy Vista when you buy a computer, but not if you are buying the sub $1000 computer systems.

It is a HP 1750series (if that matters).

I may go on the online support and see what they can do, since when I call I can usually not understand half of what they are saying and they tend to go in circles...which drives me crazy, in the end I want to throw the phone at the computer!! I know it has the create a back up you can either burn to CD/DVD or your hard drive...which I was trying to do. I figure maybe if I can just do a system recovery and send it back to the original set up it could help?

As far as Vista, I really have had no problems with it (besides this, if it is windows). A hard drive is what I am suspecting, since the last computer I had was also a HP, and it was right at a year old when I ended up having to replace the hard drive. I do love HP, or I wouldn't of got another one...but apparently there hard drives only last right at the warranty, but as long as it is working they will not replace it...since the warranty is that it will work, not how WELL it works.

I believe it is still under warranty, so tech support is free atm. I am just hoping I don't need a new hard drive. Although they are not very expensive and are very easy to install..I just hate the fact of having to do it already. Oh wait, you mean a fee for the discs..yes, there is one not sure how much they are but I spose it's worth finding out.

Yes, I realize you get what you pay for...but I did not buy factory direct or what ever you call it..it was customized and upgraded so, the computer that started out at like $600, in the end it was over $1000 for it.

I would go and use their online support...I know they provide the facility to "backup" your computer, but i believe they should also provide a facility to create a dvd image of the Windows Vista recovery DVD aswell...

Which 1750 is it?? Is it the armada, presario etc etc?? it should say on the front, top or side i would imagine..

Ok, now you are just making me look to much:silly:

Well, here is everything I can find on it...
THE FRONT: bottom has four things...one says, Intel Pentium D inside... one says, Windows Vista..one says Graphics by NVIDID pure video...the last says HP Pavilion a1750y.

Are any of those what you are looking for???

I like to make you work G :silly:

Ahhhh...yuppers...the a1750y was what i was after...

If i was in your shoes, i would use the following link, and get the recovery set for it from HP...just select whether your using Vista 32 Home Premium or Vista Ultimate..

If your unsure which version of Vista your using, do the following...

Click START

Click RUN

Type in " WINVER " ( without quotation marks )...This will then pop up a box and tell you what version of Vista your running..Or, you could look at teh Windows Vista Licence sticker on the computer unit itself and it will tell you there..

The link for requesting the recovery disc's can be found here...
