convicts are central american, not african. . . .


as far as the plants in the refugium - even if you successfully keep plants in there and they use your nitrates, you will still have to do weekly water changes and substrate cleanings in order to keep the water conditions safe for the fish. don't expect to add plants and then never have to do any other maintenance.

duh! i wasn't expecting not to do maintenance. just asking if anyone else has a similar setup and how its working for them. i do daily maintenance to all my tanks!

yep I think a pair of apistos or perhaps a trio of 1 male 2 female (I think that's what's reccomended) would be lovely...those are of course not africans, if those are the specific dwarves you are referring to.

aquabid has fairly cheap shelldwellers. also a pair of julidochromis species would work.

There are no "south american jewels". All jewels are african riverine and madagascar. :duh:

Impossible. All jewels are African. They do get mislabeled at LFS sometimes, so that might account for the mistake.
