I haven't had an aquarium running for over 15 years. My wife and kids talked me into it, so I am back at it.

The biggest surprise is how much great information is now available on the web. This site and others have been extremely helpful. Thanks to all for the great information.

Here's the details on the new tank:

70 Gallon Tall
Solid oak stand with canopy
2 Rena XP3 - spray bars angled up 45 degrees for surface agitation
2 Penguin 660R power heads with pre-filter (current + bio filter)
2 Rena In-line Smartheaters

Current stocking:

(1) Gold Severum (Heros Severus)
(2) Boesemani Rainbow (Melanotaenia Boesemani)
(2) Turquoise Rainbow, Lake Kutubu (Melanotaenia Lacustris)
(2) Neon Rainbow (Melanotaenia Praecox)
(2) Tami River, Millenium Rainbow(Glossolepis Pseudoincisus)
(2) German Ram (Papilochromis ramirezi)
(2) Roseline Shark, Denison Barb (Puntius denisonii)

The Millenium and Turquoise rainbows are juveniles, but are starting to show some nice color. I know the Severum is an odd mix, but he is kind of the center piece, and is a gentle giant with the rest of the crew. I had one years ago and he was always one of my favorites, so I wanted to include one this time.

I will selectively add just a few more Rainbows, and would be open to any suggestions. A pair of Goyder River Rainbows might be nice.

I apoligize for the lousy pictures, but I am no photographer. I was lucky to get the few shots I did, as these guys are constantly in motion.

Thanks once again for the information available here.

Very nice setup. I really like the severums too. I have one in with my angels in my 90gal tank and you're right, definately a gentle giant. Seems like those 15+ years didn't hurt you too much. Your tank turned out great. Keep up the good work and good luck with your setup.

Great looking tank!

Welcome back to the hobby. :welcome:

For 15 years off, you did a very nice job with that tank. Your mention of smartheaters caught my eye: how do you like them, so far? (I'm considering putting one on an XP2) Does the heater slide over a good length of the intake tube like a sleeve, or or does it attach at the end?

Phew!, Wow, thats some great filtration! Great tank and fish as well! Gregg, if I may ask, what lighting is that? It looks splendid! I currently have this lighting called "Lighting Rod" It's 20 watts and it's by the company Quantum Aquatics on my 55 gallon. Tank is looking quite low-light dull and i am considering to upgrade immediately. Tank is 19 inches tall, 31 inches wide, and 18 inches for the sides. Quite frankly, I'm really disappointed with my lighting. If you can help me out, I would really, really appreciate it!! :D
