My new discus!

3 are Candy Apple Red and 3 are Red Tiger's according to the breeder. He sent a bunch of different frozens with them, so I know I've got the right stuff... but they haven't relaxed into eating just yet, so that concerns me

Mine stressed the life out of me when I first got them.... took a couple only a few days to start eating... the one who was really picky took close to 5 days before he'd start giving it a try. Don't give up on 'em... keep 'em nice and warm, *86-88F* keep their water clean, *aim for a MINIMUM of 2 50% changes weekly* and they will come around. Good luck. :D

Thanks for the advice... they are just starting to pick at the bloodworms today. Definitely four of the six are "brave" but two are still hiding out.

Any advice on keeping my three interested Clown Loaches away from the food while the Discus eat? This is probably a stupid question as I gather that unless I had another tank this is next to impossible.:wall:

personally i dont like to have clown loaches in discus tanks, they can stand the temps but tend to me more agressive eaters, and they can get really big.

Just keep trying new foods and what not, and they should eventually come around.

Be very dilligent on your water changes with juvy discus in a planted tank, you cant really siphon out the debris that collects in the substrate, so its a lot harder to keep the tank clean.

:clap:They're eating!!! Hooray! Thanks for everyone who recommends patience... which I don't have, so why did I get into this hobby without it?

Thanks again for all of the good advice....plz keep it coming!

they are young so should be fed several times per day. as mentioned the tank should be fairly warm..this is not good for some species of tank mates and plants.

hang in there ..you will be rewarded with big healthy discus.

offer them a good variety of foods,my discus were like junkies trying to get them off of blood worms.be careful of blood worms, there like discus crack!good luck with your beautiful fish!!!
