There are many LFS that do not carry them, honestly I think it is a good thing. I am currently trying to find a home for mine and no place will take him...have know idea what exactly I am going to do. He does have a very fun personality, and I really enjoy him, but my plans fell through and I am not going to be able to keep him:cry:

Maybe it's not feasible but a fairly cheap solution might be to get one of these:

hey lg i never saw a pacu so red at that size. do you feed him color enhancers?
i also agree that they should not be sold at all. i feel the same way about most catfish that get huge, as well as bala and irredescent sharks, wolf fish, piranha, comon and other large pleco.... these fish rarely have a tank large enough to accomodate their needs. there are plenty of fish in the hobby to avoid monsters. i find silver dollars a nice replacement to them. they stay smaller, look similar, are peaceful, and school nicely.
