OK, fess up. What are the things that you should have known all along, but just figured out.

Mine came today. I was showing my mother-in-law my FW tank and explaining how everything worked and why. I showed her the lights in my tank. I also checked them because I know it's getting on time fore replacement.

I've always been concerned about the light level in my tank. I've got a deep 55g with two 36W CF bulbs. However, my plants are growing fantastically and always have. I thought it was just cause I don't have a lot of plants and they are more low-light tolerant than not.

Heh... I've got two 36W 50/50 10,000K and actinic marine bulbs in the tank. No wonder my plants are doing so well.

sigh.

That when you throw out 2/3rds of the media in your filter, you're likely going to get a mini-cycle. :wall:

When I started my Whisper 20 filter, I followed the directions real good, and when I turned it on, the thing made a rattly sound at first. I thought it was going to catch on fire or something, so I immediately turned it off and I brought it back to Petsmart to exchange it. Same thing happened. After going through 3 filters, I started the 4th one and since I had plugged it in a different outlet farther away, after the initial rattling, the whole thing became really quiet. Wow, I felt really stupid when that happened :duh:

hehe. good thread.

Taking out ALL substrate, all at once = nitrite spike. Oops!
