Cant Find info on this sand anywhere. I bought it at pet smarts and it says safe for freshwater/saltwater. It seems to be really fine grain sand and is very very white. Anyone have any prior experience with this sand?

Cost 30 dollars for 20 pounds of the stuff so it better be good.

Probably.

Either way I cleaned it/put it in the tank and the water isn't TOO cloudy. Just how long should I wait until turning the filter back on? I did a few 50-70% water changes and the water looks decent but I don't want to mess My filter up. Sand looks great btw.

I love sand it is my favorite substrate! Personally, I turn my filters back on rather quickly...I haven't had any problems with my filters. I have put it in 4 of my tanks (it was play sand though...not the moonlight). I have 2 tanks now with playsand, and then my SW has the agronite (MS) sand..which is sugar like...and I have no problems with any of them.

Turned on. Now all i have to do is paint the back of my aquarium black, wait for my tank to re-cycle, and re-decorate for my rtbs whom I'm sure is tired of his 10g QT tank.

I bought some pool filter sand 50lb bag for 8 dollars at my local pool store.

Sorry for jumping in on this thread, but i was also thinking of getting sand...

2 questions in regards to cleaning:
-how do you initially clean it without loosing it all?
-when doing water changes, do you usually siphon the bottom (for waste etc)? I thought you might loose more sand that way...

I think its safe to vac since it is heavier than most of what your trying to get rid of, but it is also trickier than gravel for obvious reasons.

Hopefully someone more experienced chimes in.
