Blood Red Gourami/Dwarf help

I purchased a male and female blood red gouramis a few weeks ago and put them in my com tank. They settled in nicely but now the male is begining to change colour. he is going quite a deep blue/red and is chasing the female at every oppertunity. Can some-one tell me if this is a mating ritual or not? :confused:

Are you sure they aren't both males? Female dwarfs are very, very rarely seen for sale. The males have alot more color so they use hormones to basically make them all male.

What size tank are they in ?

edit - I take its your newish 42G. That should be big enough for a couple of gourami, buy darn fish never seem to come on here and read our advice.

Yes they are male and female. As the male was chasing the female he changed to a dark blue and she became a little pinker in colour. There is no nest and there colours are back to normal now.

just spotted this typo, for 'buy' please read 'but' - that sounded quite unfriendly as typed !
 
Female dwarf gouramis are all grayish in color - if both of the dwarfs are red at all, they are both males. But either way, the tank should be sufficient for a couple dwarfs. They may chase each other a bit from time to time, but mine have never caused any damage to one another and they are in a 29.
