I need to fishless cycle one of my tanks, and my question is, what ammonia do I use? it is okay to use the stuff that had soap in it? it is confusing me! LOL. help

Do not use anything that has soap in it. It will ruin your tank. You can use pure ammonia for a fishless cycle that has nothing else added to it. Or you could use a piece of shrimp in an unused ladies stocking and let it hang in the tank to rot. When you are cycled you can just take the stocking with the shrimp in it out of the tank, do a water change and add some fish after testing the water.

I cant find pure ammonia ANTWHERE, so I think I will be going with a raw shrimp!

walmart ammonia titled clear ammonia is ok. Chelating agents are not sudsing agents and are ok.

just stay away from any colored ammonia, or any ammonia that really suds up when you shake it. Not little oxygen bubbles, but big soap suds.

Even on pure ammonia the ingredients list may contain chelating agents. That threw me off the first time.

Ace, Wal Mart, Lowes, Home Depot, Tru Value, HQ all carry a clear ammonia that is safe.

Do you have more than one tank ? if so you could seed the new tank with filter media and substrait......

I went and bought ammonia today to start a cycle in a new tank. Maybe this is a Canadian thing, but there were actually ingredients on the bottle. "Water, Ammonium Hydroxide." If there was anything else listed I wouldn't have bought it.
