A co-worker at my PD has a 125/150(don't know for sure) that she's giving me for free. It's been in her garage for a bit(3 months) and she just resealed the whole thing. She has no use for it since she just bought a bigger size. Well, I'm trying to think about the route I want to go as far as stocking. I'm loving my 100 gallon now. I'll be giving my 55 to a friend as a house warming gift for his new home(Same guy I sold my small eclipse to). He's hooked on cichlids.

Anyways, I love the Africans. Anyone else with other recommendations as far as stocking, lakes, breeds, or a completely opposite route? I've debated planting vs. rock. My sword plants have been successful in the 100 with cichlids.

I should be picking up the new tank in the next couple of days. I'll be surfing the DIY build section for stands. That'll be a scary thought. Time to up the renter's insurance, lol.

Thanks in advance for any insight, it's greatly appreciated.

That's what I was trying to do with my 100. But in my earlier days I had bought some fish before the discovery of Cichlids to me. Therefore I have a redtail shark in there along with two convicts and two JD's. I love the Malawi Cichlids. But from there I'm debating on the type of setup. All rock(I love holey rock), or rock with sword plants. I would be sweet to have a environment replica though.....I'll post pics once I have the tank.

planted...200 neons....

If you love Africans...I would not do the neons (??).

A tank that size, you can have what you like. I personally would do some kind of a display of Mbuna...but you could have those together with some Peacocks...or indeed do some Peacocks and larger Haplochrominice (A Malawi tank)...or a tank based around Lake Tangaynika - frontosa would indeed be stunning.

Have a look here www.cichlidforum.com for some ideas to get your creative juices flowing (the cookie cutter section has some general suggestions although you might not want to follow them exactly). The next question would be what is available to you to purchase...come back with some broad ideas and we might be able to help refine them for you.

It will be a great tank as an African set up :)

Remember to start planning your filtration now as well (heavily over-filterd, good cannisters reccomended, perhaps even consider a sump).
