Does anyone know how to make my flowerhorn less aggressive to my pleco. I added the pleco at night, added some hiding spots. The flowerhorn saw it and chased the pleco around. Now the pleco hides behind the filter intake and never goes into the hiding spots. Any ideas would be helpful.

P.S I moved the pleco to the 75 gallon because he was attacking the fish in the 20 gal

P.S I know my tanks are crowded I'm fixing that

I used to keep FH's myself and they were also aggressive. You really cannot calm it down. It is part of their nature. Why do you think their family tree is composed mostly of aggressive pure strains such as the Midas?

i'm wondering about the pleco - what kind is it? how big? what do you feed it and how often?

Its a Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus and about 4.5 inches. He is fed a sinking wafer once a day. Theres also driftwood and algae in the tank currently, he just doesn't eat it.

my flower horn is in a 100gal with my gg,jd,and convict. He gets along with the gg,witch is 27 inches and my jd witch is about 5 inches, but he chases the con all the time.go figure....

id remove the pleco to small for a flower horn to NOT kill.. ive kept several flower horns of the years each more aggressive then the last . kt seems for some reason flowerhorns are getting even more aggressive. like petluvr said i to had to clear out a 75 for a pair of Flower horns

you have a lot of problems going on all at once, sorry to say. flowerhorn beats on pleco because pleco is small, pleco beats on fish in the other tank because tank is too small and pleco is hungry and trying to eat them. your pleco doesn't eat wood, and it won't thrive on algae either. a single algae wafer is not enough. this brings us to the other problem - feeding the pleco properly (algae wafers and sinking pellets daily/every other day, fresh veggies 2 or more times a week) would lower water quality in the smaller tank, potentially harming the discus - who need very clean water to do well.

i have a FH in a tank with a firemouth that is half the size of the flowerhorn and they get on fine, dont know about a pleco thuogh. really depends on the individual fish
