So. Cal.
I've been using Firefox for a few years now because of it's stability over IE.
I launched it late last night and I received the message; "this is not your default browser, would you like to make it your default browser."
My heart sank, because I knew I hadn't made a backup of Firefox like I do with other specific partitions and documents.
It went back to it's default state, like I had just installed it.
Hence losing all my user settings and Bookmarks.
The settings are not a big deal, but I can't seem to find a directory path for bookmarks to see if they're recoverable.

Does anyone know the directory path to save and recover Bookmarks and settings?

ever since i downloaded the new mozilla firefox, its been freezing my computer too! now its saying my system's recovered from a serious error. i think the new version is full of problems

I found it they are not located where you would expect to find them. Secondly, they are located in different places for different versions of Windows. Thirdly, they may be assigned random file names that make them difficult to recognize. On Windows 2000/XP machines the locations for your Firefox and Thunderbird profiles are respectively:

  • C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows login/user name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<Profile name>\
  • C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows login/user name>\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile name>\
On Windows 9x/Me PCs they can usually be found at:

  • C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<Profile name>\
  • C:\Windows\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile name>\

Weird, I haven't had any problems

It's a first for me. I have it back to the way I like it, with all my Bookmarks, profile, user cache......everything.

I dug through some data files and found that it done an automatic update yesterday. Even though I had it set to ask me before downloading and installing. On the flip side, I think it's still pretty solid comparatively.
No data was actually lost. It was easy to restore manually.

Mine used to blank out with everything. No error message or anything, I'd just open it up sometimes and all of my bookmarks would be gone. Made me so mad(didnt know how to restore bookmarks or anything), but the new version hasn't done it yet

Try Yahoo Answers. It's fun an has 1000's of people on there at a time 24/7 doing nothing but looking for questions that they know the answer to so they can score points. I always find my PC answers there. along with others. It's kinda fun too.

Like here, some of the answers are way off base. I try to give them a negative review when possible (Yahoo). There are far too many that think they have all the answers because they can fix 1 or 2 problems. Be careful of fixes offered on it.
