Crayola sand

that guy had it in his tank for about 2 weeks, hardly enough time to see if there will be an longterm effects. plus, there have not been any posts on that thread since June 23rd...who knows that could have happaned since then. just because the dye has not leeched out now does not mean that it wont later. most colored sands are not meant to be kept in water long-term.

Well, the way we all get information is from our experience and the experience of others. Someone's got to try it to know if it works or not.

It will be awhile before I get mine set up. Probably several weeks. If no one tries it before me, I'll let you know.

same here. i am planning to get some for my blue yabbies tank to test it out. when i do i'll start a thread on it so others can learn from my experience. i posted that link because i thought it might help people. i realize it is not a perfect source of information but the stuff has only been out for a little while.... i saw a thread here in the marine section where someone has it in their tank as well....i have asked them for an update on how it's working out, so when(if) they reply that will be one more source of information. i was not trying to talk people into getting it or anything. just spreading the love. (:

everything that's not tested on animals is not safe for aquarium use. they can't say it's safe if they haven't tested it... also, it the color hasn't leached in a couple weeks i don't think it will. like i said i will let you know how it works out once i get it done.

I'm with you. We must depend on the science of the issue and not the speculation. Experimentation is the only way to find a definitive answer.

The last post on the thread was on August 1. The people who tried it out all said it was working just fine. Like any sand, it just needs a good rinsing. However, as far as the price is concerned, this stuff would not be cost efficient. But hey, if you want a brightly colored tank, this may not be a bad option for you. As long as you don't mind spending an arm and a leg. ;)

it still cost less here than buying aquarium sand from the lps. my lps sells if for $1.50/lbs..walmart has theirs for $6 for 20lbs. that's not that much. it's more than playsand but it's worth it if you want to add the color. i have already added playsand to my 2 largest tanks and i don't want them all to look the same. it should not be too bad for smaller tanks. besides, it will be fun to experiment a little and have my tank being something a bit different than everyone else's. (:
