150 Gallon Build Thread ... From the Start

Next week The Wet Spot is having its annual sale. So everything there is 20% off with exception to the tanks and stands. But still that is an additional 10% off of the tank you want including the combo price. So I haven't done the math but take 10% extra off the quote Marcie gave you. Just thought you should know when it comes time to compare prices. She might even match prices of online places if you are buying everything there. Can't promise that but it might just work. Good luck with the hunting.

There's another LFS I want to check with on pricing for the tank, stand, and canopy (hope they carry the brand). Actually one LFS is 60 miles to the North and the other is 60 miles to the South (I'm in a perfect location - lol - an hour from both of them)!!

Feedback on substrate and painting the back of the tank is more than welcome!! Thanks!!

i can solve the time issue.. put the pedal to the metal!!

Thanks Matt for the heads up. I made a call today down to Eugene - they priced the tank at $495 ($50 under Marcie's price). The owner was out for the weekend but is supposed to get back in touch with me the first of the week with the stand and canopy pricing.

Since you are getting a big tank then you might even look into getting plants that would normally be considered too tall for a small tank. Such as sags, e. tenellus and even blyxa! Blyxa is my favorite bushy plant so i would stick 100% to it. Though glosso would work, i think it might get boring to you since you already have glosso in the 45, so would be nice to try something different. Even hairgrass would be a good choice.

Ofcourse theres another foreground plant thats EXTREMELY nice but its hard to find and once you do find it its like $20-30 per small section. Talking about UG (Utricularia graminifolia)

And since you are getting med-high light + your co2 steroid and ferts it should spread fast!!

I order a few of those in each Amano Order. Nice plant, but hard to maintain. Look’s a lot like Riccia initially, haven’t actually witnessed it when it has grown in.

BK - I agree 100% with trying something different. Blyxa is also a favorite of mine and since I don't have any in the 45, it would make a great plant for the 150.

Blyxa would look very nice, even if you choose not to use it as a complete carpet you should get a few bushes here and there.

e. tenellus would be cool also - better looking (IMO) than the sags
tenellus and sags look somewhat similar. But i think you should go for something different since in my opinion the sags/tenellus have a cheap look to them lol dont mean to say that ppl who have them in the tank are cheap or anything, just mean that for me (personally) dwarf sag is like hornwort, at first you like it but then realize its a so so plant. You wouldnt see Amano using hornwort in any of his tanks..

Theres also micro e. tenellus, very nice, spreads fast and gains a nice bronze color.
