Would this light be ok for a 55g tank? im thinking of planting it. I would be planting lots of crypts, sword(s), maybe vals, rotala, hygro, stuff like that. I WOULD NOT be using co2 or ferts and WOULD most likely use a nutrient rich substrate (like eco-complete, or this)
Overkill?

That is a very popular light atm. As for your tank it would be fine, but I would never ever run more than 2 bulbs. And if you do order, ask for 6700k/10k bulbs instead of actinics.

They use quality ballasts, it is too much light for a non CO2 55gal.
