Pathetic...

That was pretty bad, usually I will jump on the officers side pretty quick, but that was very poor judgment on the officers part. Granted we don't know the whole story, and maybe some other factors were involved but trying to dig up more info from other sources weren't much help. The article made it sound a lot better than the video portrayed, which of course was clipped for the story, which I never like.

I'd say the stop was good, drawings his weapon was acceptable, but not letting Moats go even after even the nurses were informing the officer about the situation, I would think is very poor judgment. If the officer heard the story from Moats directly while contacting him, then just ran his ID and SBC'd it when it came back clear, I don't think it would have been an issue. A bad deal for sure, and I feel bad for Mr. Moats, though I would say that calling for the officer to be terminated is not the right thing to do at this point.

I am sure the internal investigation will be fair and find out what he was thinking, and perhaps there was something more to the story that's being left out. A lot of training goes into becoming an officer and I would imagine Dallas is one of the better departments in the US, I would hope that the officer has a good explanation for his conduct. I suppose only time will tell.

Sorry this officer needs to be put on outhouse duty and turned into a dog park attendant.:swear:

Take his gun away because this kind of police officer will most definitely use it in what he terms self defense but as very clearly evidenced in this matter he lacks basic human decency and the concept of common sense is very far removed from him.

"When we at the command staff reviewed the tape, we were embarrassed, disappointed," Kunkle said. "It's hard to find the right word and still be professional in my role as the police chief. But the behavior was not appropriate."

I like this part, where the Chief of Police pretty much says "i would like to call this officer a complete idiot, but instead will keep my mouth shut until i have him in my office"

NO DOUBT

I read about this yesterday and I am in shock by it. It doesn't surprise me though, as some people think just because they have a badge they can be total *****. I don't understand why he just couldn't let them go into the hospital, or at least let his wife go as her mother was dying.

This reminds me of a similar situation that Jason (DooSPX) and I experienced about a year ago. My daughter, who had just turned 4 at the time, needed to use the bathroom really bad while we were driving. She was sick and it was harder for her to hold it then normal so we knew we really needed to get her to a bathroom. Jason was driving and he was doing about 11 over the speed limit. We got pulled over not even half a mile from a gas station we were headed too. We asked the officer if he could follow us to the gas station so I could let her go to the bathroom. He wouldn't do it, then he took forever to get the ticket to us. He was such a jerk and I was just greatful she was able to hold it till we got there, even though she was about in tears because of it.

While it's understandable that a police officer's job can be quite stressing, and they do a great service, unfortunately sometimes, a bad apple will ruin it for the rest.

This story being a classic example.

That was so ridiculous. Ryan Moats is one of my new favorite players because he kept cool during the situation and decided not to play the "I'm an NFL player" card. I hope that cop is removed from duty for playing the games he did.

The officer should have issued him a speeding ticket and a ticket for running a red light and let him go. Officers often hear EVERY excuse someone can make up to get them out of a ticket but after the hospital took the time to send nurses to tell the officer that in fact his mother-in-law was dying he should have let him be on his way. On the other hand just because a family member is sick and dying it still gives no one the right to put others in danger, which by the speed they were obviously traveling others lives were in danger. IMHO both parties could have handled the situation better.

The traffic stop was not for speeding, was it? Where did you read about the speed that they were obviously travelling?

Moats only ran a red light when he was sure that nobody was going to get hurt.
