I found an LFS that had them and will pick them up soon, I got one dropped on me before I left college and just loved it. I will have a total of 3 with 3 guppies in a 10 gal tank. i've looked around and saw some saying fish food and someone told me shrimp pellets so I have some of those. How often should I drop pellets in and should I get samd for em? (I have rocks right now)

I'd upgrade the tank to at least 15g. They need more space than a 10g can give. If possible, stick to 4-5 as the minimum number. They are less shy in this situation and yes, stick to sand. Once a day feeding is sufficient enough.

i agree, upgrade the tank if possible. i'd try to go for a twenty if i were you. my kuhlis seem to appreciate having sand. fine, smooth gravel will also do.

Sorry, i'm pushing it at a 10, so would you suggest less kuhlies or will I be fine with the 10 for a few years then switch to bigger? I had others say the kuhlies didn't have very much bioload so it would be fine with 3 guppies and 3 kuhlies

Look into the bigger tank. They are slender fish and you will often see them darting around form time to time. A 15-20 gallon tank would be absolutely perfect. I wouldn't get any less than 5 kuhlies if you ever want to see them. The more you have, the safer they feel and the more willing they are to come out and explore the tank while the lights are on.

I have 5 in a 50 gallon right now. I have only seen all 5 of them once ever since putting them in there. Otherwise I see 2-4 through out the day.

I already explained to you if you want the kuhlis at their full potential, you need a larger tank and a bigger group. Bioload is not an issue, space and behavior are. They are sociable fish therefore keeping less than five is still depriving them of the chance to enjoy their lives especially as these love to interact with their members. These fish are quite active contrary to most experiences. You will find that most hobbyists fail to see the kuhlis at their fullest potential because they are either kept in small tanks where they do not have much space to swim around or fewer numbers wherein they become less bolder.

As mentioned before upgrade to a 20g. There are plenty available on craigslist for pretty cheap, sometimes even for free. I have 5 of these crazy little guys and it is super fun to watch them explore about my tank.

The problem isn't that I cant get a 20 the problem is i can't keep a 20. If I could I would have a 50 but unfortunately because of current constraints I can only have a 10 (and that's pushing it) but I would like to have some khlies since the one that got dropped on me seems nice and wanted to get him some friends. Aso the guppies were there first so I would feed bad getting rid of them just to get more kuhlies....
