oh, i should add that most cichlids (angels aside) just look like retarded rednecks to me. they just look like they float around all day saying "duuuuur" and drooling on themselves.
Whereas I like a number of Cichlids- that statement is so true and so funny about a number of them.
I think we should hereon refer to Cichlid as redneck fish.
-danios. really, ive only seen zebra danios and i just dont get why people always suggest a big school of them...theyre not really colorful (show me pics if they are) and they remind me of slugs/snails cause of the color pattern.
-most cat fish/bottom feeders. weird lump bodies, and some of them have a slug design on their body. yuck!
-gouramis. although good looking..they just float there. atleast in tanks at pet stores. not fun to watch.
Yeah! You just described the fish in my 55 gallon!
I love Danios for their activity- they bring livelyness to any aquarium, and they come in a wide variety of colours.
There is nothing cuter than seeing 6 or 7 Corydoras gather round a food pellet eating it together.
Gourami can be kind of floaty and boring- I want to get a pearl though to add contrast to my active tiny little fish! I want a fish that just "hangs there" - I don't think I would enjoy a species tank of them though. (they are pretty though)
As for me- my fish I don't like... goldfish with lumpy eyes come to mind. Guppies... same reason as someone mentioned above- they breed too quickly and get tiresome finding home for all the young. Some Cichlids are very nice- but some are really just ugly things.
There seems to be a near consensus on livebearers, goldies, most cichlids and most bottom dwellers. I agree.
I keep gracefull, peacefull fish for the most part.
Not crazy about most cichlids- my dad kept cichlids for a while, they bored me. Long fin oscars are pretty cool though. But I don't even like rams, really.
Not crazy about livebearers, either, except for some of the platies. Especially don't like balloon mollies.
Also, shrimp totally creep me out. *shudder*
I like goldfish, but not enough to have a tank dedicated to them.
I read a couple posts saying that gourami's just "hang" there. I think that is what is appealing to me. Amongst all of the activity in my tank, it is like they are suspended in time/space (like an astronaut or something), which adds a surreal feeling.
I will never buy a fish that looks like a snake (some loaches, eels, bichirs, etc). They just creep me out.
No to snake-type or eels. No to any manipulated fish. Whether color body style, or any other means. If it ain't natural I don't want it! Guppies never did it for me until I started keeping them full time. But I still won't pay ridiculous amounts for them - overrated. No to goldfish as they seem way too common. No to bettas as well.
I do like the giant danios over the zebras. I want to see movement in my tanks. Yes to any fish over 4".
I do not care for Balloon fish of any variety, and Platies do nothing for me - they just remind me of small goldfish. (of course I do not approve of tattooed fish!) oh! and I dont like the bubble eyed goldfish. They are goofy looking! :lipssealedsmilie:
