Okay so I wasn't really paying attention to my tank today (10 gallon 1 molly, 5 tetras, 4 corys). I fed the fish in the AM and was gone all day. Just now I'm looking in my tank, and I think the tetra's had babies! I count 5 fry!

I am excited but freaking out! It is 1AM here - so nothing is open - I have no fry holder thing and have NO clue what to do. They've got to be baby tetra's I only have 1 molly and the cory babies would look different I assume.

Will they eat the babies!? I want them to live! They don't seem to be bothering them but I am FREAKING out, lol.

Any ideas? Sorry for the frantic post but wow! Was NOT expecting that.:help:

Which species of tetra? If the molly is female it could have been pregnant or holding the sperm for a long time before you noticed the babies.

Remove them to a separate tank as soon as you can, if possible. Otherwise add a lot of floating plants and hope that the adults do not pick them off.

Sorry, they are neon tetra. I've had ALL the fish for about 3 months now and no babies - these came out of nowhere! lol. Will they be okay overnight in the tank?

I have read to feed heavily so they wont eat the babies but I'm worried they'll gobble them up if I feed them because they won't be paying attention (babies are kinda hanging out near the top)...

Would it be better to catch the babies in my regular net and just leave the net in the tank? Or is that a dumb idea? The net is a generic small net to catch a fish, the babies are really tiny tho so idk if that would work??

Also - I have another tank - a 5 gallon. But it houses my betta...
should I move the better to a regular bowl for a few days and put the tetras in there maybe?

I really doubt the neon tetras just up and bred for you...they usually need pristine water that is very, very soft to get into condition and I believe the eggs need low lighting levels to develop.

There is the possibility that the molly gave birth a short time ago and you just didn't notice. Fry can hide well.

I wouldn't move the betta, it needs its tank. For now just leave the fry where they are at and hope for the best. The only option you have at this point.

wow. this is nuts. I can't believe I was so oblivious. I stare at them and COUNT them every day, lol. I JUST cleaned the tank like 2 days ago. wow. I am totally stunned.

Don't take what I am saying as fact though, I cannot see the tank LOL.

Btw, can you get pics of the little ones? It might be easier to judge what happened.

I can try, I will attempt now and try to get them on in about 15 minutes...

on another forum I post on they suggest putting the babies in a glass cup and letting the cup float in the tank, is that a good idea
?

okay here's the best pictures I could get - I really suck as a photographer unfortunately. :/
