AC'S Oscar Club..........

Ummmm I see nothing wrong but a torn fin. Fin rot looks different then that. Also it looks like its already begun healing thats how the fins on my fish use to look after they started healing. I wouldnt worry to much. Just keep an eye on aggression in the tank cuz if the other oscar did that once it might try again.

No its actually bad to feed Oscars goldfish since there very low as far as nutritional value goes plus you run the risk of introducing diseases and parasites to your O's unless your quarintine them first which is a big hassle. I use to feed mine feeder goldfish but if I had some no it would be mainly prepared foods like Hikari Gold pellets just like I feed my loisellei's and Jack Dempseys. I wont take the risk of live foods with my fish anymore.

certain fish can be used as feeders, but not goldfish, and definitely not any sort of feeder fish you'd buy from an lfs. goldfish in particular have a high thiamine content if i recall my research correctly, and this is not good for the diet of an oscar.

there is the option of breeding and raising your own feeder fish and feeding them really good food (basically gut stuffing them). this ensures that you are feeding your oscar a healthy and parasite free live food. i am in the process of breeding and raising endlers (livebearer fish) for this purpose for my oscar and other cichlids. mind you, these feeders of mine will not be the staple diet, more so to supplement the well rounded diet the cichlids already receive, and for a treat.

Hey GER....u really think so.....I think I'll just play it safe and follow Betta's advice and see what happens......not to discredit Betta....but I sure hope it is as you say.....just a battle wound. Cuz u'd never believe but yesterday the oscar that doesn't have the torn tail was chasing the the torn tail one for a while but they've stopped now. It was wierd....I thought they were mating/courting or something. Honestly.....I'm clueless......I actually have some poor video footage of it....will post.
