Hey
I wanted to know if a 40 watt 30 inch bulb existed for a medium light tank. My tank size is a 20 long. I already have a hood and a fixture, just a 20 watt fluorescent bulb in now. I just wanted a medium 2wpg bulb

Thanks

30" bulbs don't exist as far as I know. If they do, they aren't in any of the common brand fixtures.

not likely to find a 40 watt 24" unless you upgrade

...or a retro kit. That's pretty much what an upgrade is.

Yes, your ballast can only handle 20 watts assuming this a t8. If you are handy you can look into retrofitting it.

People do something they call overdriving.
I read about it a few years ago. But sounded like it had its ups n downs. And would probably be a good idea to know electricity.

The best thing would be either a couple of t5's or a cf.

You could do a retrofit with a 24" - 65w cf. But thats alot of light over a short(height) tank.

Would retrofitting be a lot of work? Where could i figure out how to do this? Or, would it just be easier and cheaper to just buy a new fixture?

Thanks
