Good first gun?

Ruger 10/22...Autoloader, it's not too expensive, ammo is cheap.

Savage/Stevens 24FG...single shot dual barrel 22LR rimfire on top, 20Ga shotgun on bottom. My first gun, I still have it. You'd probably have to find a used one, I don't think they make 'em new anymore. 20 Ga recoil is reasonable.

Probably any quality bolt action 22LR would be a good choice too.

Might be a good time to change that avatar before we recommend you have no guns at all :)

Lol, you guys have some interesting choices for first guns. I still say a .22 is the way to go if this is your FIRST RIFLE. And to the OP, unless your dad really loves you I doubt he's going to by you a AR, AKM or large caliber long gun. Plus the recoil from some of these choices might really push you away from shooting.

Oh you are correct vicious, my dad thinks I should start with a .22 or close to It. My dad actuAlly has a mp16, and a mac 10, and a ar-15 and a couple shotguns, and a revolver. Here's what I am thinking, I decided .22 would be best because of ammo, but I don't like the 10/22 because I hear out of the box they're not that accurate. My dad has enough semi auto guns, so I want a bolt action. So my dad can pump a hundred bullets around the target, and I hit it right on.

I want a decent bolt action, and I'm going to use $ to buy a scope and maybe a tripod :) I was looking at some guns I liked they were cx cz or something like that or just a savage. Or i'll just go with my dad to the pawn shop :) thtas exciting

Please excuse my grammar and spelling this is on an iPod LOL

I haven't had any problems with my Ruger 10/22. I shot it the other day out of the box and I was hitting a beer can at 40-50 yards away standing up no prob. But if you want a bolt action then get a bolt action. Nothing wrong with that.

my friend has the cps3200 with backpack dual comparment and hose hook up capabilities.. let me tell you something man this thing blowsmy cps 1000 out of the water.. once he hooks that bad boy up the to hose its game over.. shoots like 60 yards at near light speed.

my favorite gun that was also my first is my winchester 30-30 lever action. Great shooter, a blast to shoot, and if you can master the lever action, you can shoot anything!

+1 for a bull barrel Ruger 10/22. With a halfway decent scope, you can hit anything at almost any range.

Personally, I love CZ weapons. I have several and my dad has dozens (he has a fire arms sales license).

If you are positive you will get a scope, then I would suggest a CZ 452 varmit. Alternately, the CZ 452 scout (on a budget) or the 452 Style (if you like nickel barrels and black polymer).

That being said, I would also suggest that you look at the Sig/Hammereli Trailside. Yes, it's a pistol, but it's a Hammereli pistol. It's about the same price as the rifle and the 6" barrely is probably just as accurate as the rifle out to 150 yards. With a scope, it'll go much farther. I put 9 rounds in the top of a coke can at 60 yards with iron sites (they are adjustable).

Hope that helps and let us know what you get.

Oh another REALLY fun one is a Puma (yeah, I know, but trust me) lever action .38/.357. The pistol ammo is cheap and it's a lot of fun with the lever action.

LOL for a starter i would go for something using a 5.56 round or smaller.

Well, you say first gun but it sounds like you've been handling guns, such as BB guns already so it's not really a first gun.

See if you had never handled guns at all, then I'd suggest a good single shot .22.

But I think you are ready to go a bit past that.

And you want low priced but don't really say what that is.

A Ruger 77/22 bolt action is a real nice gun. The rotary clip is nice too. I just hate the clip rifles with those magazines that stick out the bottom, it really hurts the carrying of them. Might be a bit more than you want to spend.

The Marlin 981T which uses a tubular magazine is a pretty good gun. Probably about the price range you are looking for. Take a look at that.
