Hi,
I am new to cichlids. Just set up a 26 gallon tank with 2 angelfish, 1 german ram and a couple of serpae tetras. The angels seemed to get along fine for the first two weeks but all of a sudden one has turned very aggressive and harasses the other non-stop. We had gone out for 24 hours and so the fish missed one feed and wonder if that initiated the aggression. Is there any way to get them to calm down? Or are we going to have to remove one of the angels?
Please help!

You might well have to remove one of the angels, to be honest 26G is a little on the small side for 2 angels with those other fish anyway.

What kind of fighting is it? if they are in front of each other and fighting face to face / shimmying in front of each other, then it could be a pair forming.

They take turns chasing each other around and I have also seen them lip lock a few times. But it is non-stop. Initially I thought only one of them was aggressive but now it seems they both take turns chasing the other.

Looks like you might have a pair, how big are the Angels?
Any cover in your tank set up?

They are about the size of a dollar coin. One is a little larger than the other. The tank does have a cover.

definitely sounds like a breeding pair. same thing with mine. you'll either have to deal and breed them or seperate them.

Would they attack each other if they were breeding? It seems a little strange. One of them is mostly the one that backs down but sometimes he/she is the aggressor. Very puzzling!

yes, they may attack each other. breeding pairs do this from time to time.
keep a very close eye out tho.
if they are a breeding pair this will stop. especially if they spawn. but you may also have 2 angels of the same sex.
this may lead to all out fights.
watch for damaged fins or other stress signs.
if one is hiding a lot you may need to remove it from the tank.

only breeding angels lock lips like that. it's a courting ritual.
