My new tank set up (pics)!

Thanks for the compliments everyone! The lighting system is a T-5 Nova Extreme Pro (it's what I used when I had my reef set up). I only have two 10k bulbs on ,but I agree it is a lot of light. I might just run one 10k and an actinic. Total wattage with two bulbs on is 78. About the cloudiness...it's gotten a lot worse. I really thought it would clear up, but it is getting cloudier. Any ideas?

The cloudiness is probably a bacterial bloom and will clear up on its own.

I reccomend you fishless cycle that tank, there is a sticky on cycling at the top of this forum (the freshwater newbie forum).

If you want to sell those lights, I might take them. Lol. I could use them on my reef...

Great setup so far. I'll be following along.

I think I'm going to hang onto the lights for a while Cake, but I'll keep you in mind if I decide to sell! The tank is still really cloudy and now I'm starting to get some algae. Does this mean the tank is cycling? I haven't added ammonia or anything yet.

Wow I REALLY like your setup. It looks great!

with 2wpg it is possible for you to get algae. Too much light is the easiest way to get algae, and maybe an algae bloom. You could throw in some hardy fish (i used serpae tetra's) to help cycle your tank

I would add ammonia to cycle the tank. If you do it with fish then you will be stressing them and most likely permanently damaging them.

the way i cycle, is thow a piece of raw shrimp in there and don't worry about it for a while, no constant adding anything, keep check and you'll start seeing ammonia and nitrites rise and eventually nitrates, always worked well for me.

I have stopped running the lights so hopefully there won't be new algae growth. The cloudiness is also starting to clear up. How does everyone keep the surface agitated? On my reef I had an overflow that was constantly skimming the surface, but I don't have that now. I added an airstone and I was thinking of getting a small powerhead as well. BGCoop, I think I will try the shrimp method. It sounds a lot easier than having to add ammonia, and I don't want to get fish and stress it out. Thanks again for the compliments. I will post more pics as the water starts to clear up and I get closer to completing my cycle!
