Mafia 61: The Gunslinger - Game Thread

Sounds fine to me...

This was Ag's last post. 615p on the 8th. He has to post by this time on sunday or UD. This is the longest silence from him all game. Would he really UD this late?

Maybe it's nothing...

Mad, if Ag indeed UDs, can we get the results of that before Kash has to take her shot? His UD time is 615, her shot deadline is 617.

Kash, the danger in waiting is that the more time I have; the more I think about things. :lipssealedsmilie: I don't know if it really helps or not to know this info before you shoot, but I may not be back on before so I thought I'd put it out there for your consideration.

Choose wisely, Kash... I don't think I can handle another 2 days of this. :wall:

PS... I'd like to thank the town for their nomination as most trustworthy townie. I hope to use my position to further the causes of world peace and civil liberties. I'll be making a public appearance down at Ed's Hardware (just south of the statue of Bala). Be sure to bring the kids down and say hi! (sorry, it's late and my filters are no longer working properly). :eek3:

One last thought. Ag was telling the truth about Razz's posting. Last game he was the high poster, and innocent. This game one of the lowest. That's a pretty big difference. Ag was also telling the truth about his own posting style. He was low last game too.

Just a little more to chew on.

I don't believe it matters whether Agass UDs or not. The mafia gets to choose a new Gunslinger only if it's the GS who dies an untimely death.

Would Agass really UD this late in the game? I hope not (unless he's scum and decides it's his way of conceeding). Since he did sign up to play again, I imagine he has some real interest in this and I'd like to see him continue doing these games... and participate more in them.

1. If he's the last mafia: ...and I shoot him... the game is over. Likewise, if I miss with my shot at someone else and Agass UDs instead... it amounts to the same thing. A successor GS will simply watch whether Agass decides to post again before he dies at 6:15. And the next GS gets more than 2 minutes to safely submit their post within their 48 hour deadline. The town wins either way.

2. If Agass is innocent: ...it doesn't matter whether we shoot him or he dies on his own. He ends up costing the town one innocent life... be that his own or someone else's (whoever our GS is at that time if they shoot him).

Adding this to #2.

...(whoever our GS is at that time if they shoot him or I do).

Good points. That's why I'm glad you've got the gun and not me. :woot:

Before taking my shot, I'd like to leave the game (or end it) with the most information I can offer the town... in case I'm wrong.

My ranking as most likely town.

Jbradt - Most trusted and heavily weighted as the #1 choice by everyone (except Agass who didn't vote). I've not played against JB enough to read him that well on my own... he was the reason for my 2nd question asking who you most believe we can trust right now. I'm extremely confident this result would not have been unanimous from players like Dawg, Jpappy, Zsand or for JB to be trusted by Ice too if JB was trying to fool us. Quite happy to call JB a townie after this and leave it at that. If I'm wrong with my shot, another player who knows JB better than me will have to do the second-guessing for us in his regard. I don't have enough experience playing against JB yet to do that myself.

Jpappy - Behind JB now, I trust Pappy the most this round (still). Input from the results show both Dawg and Zsand also agree with this call.. and they're both not lying about it even if one is only pretending to be innocent. If I'm wrong about Pappy, well it just means he fooled me.. and not for the first time, or last. Still, if I could pass him the gunslinger's gun without having to shoot someone I don't believe is evil.. that's what I'd do.

Lab Rat - As a realtive noob, LR has shown good instincts about the game going up against and having to defend herself from some pretty heavy hitters she hasn't played with/against very much. I felt comfortable naming LR as a townie (or strongly leaning townie) before Ice shot me.. I've seen nothing since in her posts to revise that opinion.. and Jbradt, Jpap, and Dawg have each listed LR among their townie top 3 picks. This is good enough for me... LR is in that bean.

Take Aim by Consensus.. or Play a Hunch?

The town is in agreement that Razzle, Zsand, and Agass are our top 3 most suspicious mafia candidates.

Razzle - Most suspected by everyone... for good reasons. If it weren't for the fact that Razz is a noob and he doesn't know the players very well, I'd shoot him now. But if I take that shot and we're wrong, I'm not real eager to pass the gun to him now that there's only 1 mafia left to find... when it's fairly evident that almost any another GS to follow me will still shoot him even as a last-ditch option to save the game. We can afford to risk a miss or two, so I'm willing to play a hunch here and not shoot the most obvious choice. While I agree with all the points made by everyone, I don't like the obvious just to play this safe... not quite yet.

Agass - I liked how Agass's best defense strategy was saying his posting habits are the same as they were last game. But is this being scummy/anti-town or self-serving and consistently less than active in all mafia games. And in his case, does it indicate which team he's on? Agass wants to get shot so he can shoot Razz... or he'll shoot Zsand so Zsand can shoot Razz. Despite the consensus vote placing Agass as 3rd on our possible mafia tally... shooting Agass just isn't worth dying for... not yet. As with Razz, I'd rather not hand Agass my gun either and I trust another GS will eagerly take him out of the game if needed (for a townie win) if I choose to skip him right now.

Dawg or Zsand - My two prime mafia candidates are Dawg (for reasons I'll explain more) and Zsand because so many people I trust don't trust him this game... (even if I still do). I could easily shoot Dawg for reasons of my own or shoot Zsand, deferring to the town's overall best judgement. While considering that choice, I went over the whole game again several times.

IMO, this format is a cake walk for the mafia. It absolutely baffles me how Ice was able to identify anyone on this mafia team, much less nail 3 (in a row) out of 11 possibilities the way he did.

If I were mafia and Annie, Zaffy, and TRS were my teammates...

Mind, you I don't have benefit of knowing what suggestions the mafia offered each other, but this is the game plan I like best starting out: Put both Annie and Zaffy at the top of my initial suspect list (subject to change) and leave TRS alone to hide out by being typically out of sight/out of mind until later in the game. Then concentrate on posting a lot.. build some lukewarm cases while it's mostly random that I could pursue further or drop later... "help" the town out by debating irrelevant issues back and forth... while trying not to do or say anything that might draw suspicion my way. If I felt I wasn't under pressure, I'd fire a few more serious (but not conclusive) shots at either Annie or Zaffy (but not both). I'd also jump on someone who "seems" to be scummy for any reason as long as the suspicion was caused by their own goof up or someone else's initiation instead of mine. Then I'd abandon my case against my teammate whenever that opportunity came up as the game unfolded and go after other players.... OR.. I would lead the charge against either of them if there had been some townie deaths and that option seemed a better plan. Basically, play it by ear and rely on logic, bogus distracting theories, or sincere/diligent efforts to help the town anywhere else but where it actually helps the town.

With Annie or Zaffy in on this plan, we'd establish that we're set against each other beyond what would be dismissed as as mild distancing... either of us would have benefitted in credibility points from the other's death. This might get either of us killed (of course), but.. again, that would only reinforce a perception of innocence for the other. This would also be viewed as "in character" for my usual style of posting and game play. Nothing to stand out as being unusual or particularly scummy.

When the game started, I was surprised that Ice was the first gunslinger. If I were evil, my pick for the 1st gun may have been a mid-range townie, but I'd rather have chosen a noob. Players like Ice, Jpappy, Dawg, and Zsand are too good as someone to banter with in the thread as an innocent (known by me) that I can either side with or argue against (or both as needed)... if I'm mafia and I know they're innocent but not a townie PR who can investigate me.

Ultimately, I couldn't shake that nagging feeling throughout this game that one of the mafia is a veteran who's very active and posting. As we learned Annie's, Zaffy's, and TRS' roles (thanks to Ice) new information kept reinforcing the feeling I had from the start that Dawg was playing this game very much as I would have done... just as mafia not an innocent.

With all that explained... I shoot Dawg.

(And hope for the best.)

If this choice is incorrect... Dawg will become the new GS and is in a great position carry on as the town wishes or choose to try another approach of his own.
