What bulb type are you using on your 18" and deeper tanks?

Bulb type has nothing to do with depth penetration. Spectrum IMO is what matters most and wattage equivalent. i.e. a 23 watt CFL is equivalent to 100 watt incandescent bulb.

Well I didn't ask for your opinion..I asked what bulb types are being used on deep tanks.

I am running T-5 HO's about 8 inches above the water line on my 4 foot 120 but you might be better with T-8's depending on how close to the water they will be but this is all JMO

incandescent wattage equivalent is irrelevant. You might as well compare it to candle equivalence.

That would kinda be bulb type..

For deep tanks, I'd recommend T5HOs.

On a deep enough tank, you won't be able to fit enough standard fluorescent bulbs over the tank to adequately light it. 18" isn't very deep though, four T8 bulbs would do fine.

mh all the way ,floresants need replacing every 6 months they loose so much of there output. yes 18 is fine with t5 or t8 but they limit what you can do but can work just fine
