new windsor, ny
after watchin hachiko with richard gere joan allen & a very cute shiba inu/akita (btw a tear jerker highly recommend watching) this a was a very touching story.

as for us, we decided to buy an pure bred akita from whom we thought a reputable breeder.

it turned out to be a rescue as their pen was filthy the house was in disarray she had 4 kids a lot of commotion. she was just a mess.

as it turned out she in bred 2 different generation brother & sister, so she was not your typical breeder for standards. but since we saw how they were living we said we gotta have one, turned out to be the runt.

we are happy but we were a bit deceived. but so glad to get a puppy out of their messy house. plus we find out she had split with her hubby & they were nasty to each other especially splitting up the dogs.

sounds like a puppy mill to us then. but too late finding out but also a blessing as our akita has been a wonderfful pet.

I bought my chihuahua when he was a puppy at a local breeder. My friend had a chihuahua, & convinced me to get one.

I have a few good ones from cats we rescued when I was a kid...

My one cat Missy was found by the local SPCA in a trap laid by the river.. she was only a 5 weeks old and malnourished. My mom & I happened to go to the SPCA to drop off some donations and they told us she was not eating, so they were going to put her down to avoid her starving to death.. it broke our hearts.

So, we told them we would take her for the weekend, and if she was not eating by Monday we would bring her back to be put down humanely (*sob*). ANYWAYS.. I HAPPENED to be grounded to my room for the weekend to clean it (I think I was 12?)... so my mom left little Missy in there with me in the hopes I could get her to eat. Of course, I only really cleaned my room so I could find where she was hiding... and eventually, after a day and a lot of TLC and coaxing, I got her eating... so we kept her!

Funny thing, she ended up being the fattest cat we ever had and got nicknamed butterball .. we had her for 17 years, and she got along great with our other 4 cats =)

anyone else? anyone watch hachiko yet?

My daughter saw a picture of a chinese crested for sale in our local online used classifieds. I could tell by the look in her eyes that she wanted this dog. She had already emailed the lady and everything.

So I took a look at the add and the price was reasonable $600, but, not in the range as I had just spent my fair share of money on some tanks. Well it seems that no one was really to interested in a hairless dog and the price went down to $300 at which point I got ahold of the lady and told her that my daughter had fallen in love with this dog and that I had to get it for her.

So when my daughter came to the restaurant after school that day I told her that we were going to get her dog on the weekend.

It turned out that spike was basically brought in from georgia along with 2 female powder puffs for one reason. So that he could live in a kennel for much of his life and reproduce and basically be a cash cow. His mate had 3 litters by the time she was just 3, so pretty much heat and inpregnate.

Spike was totally indrawn when we got him and it took my daughter a whole year to be able to get him to bond with her as he did in this picture.

very nice!

Every time I buy a new house, or move I seem to inherit a cat...

The only cat we every actually bought was years ago with my first girlfriend and we got a kitten from the SPCA. It died. About a week later a kitten turned up at our door so we adopted that, lived for years, but eventually got run over. :(

Since then every time I move house I seem to get a new cat, or 2, or three....
